Wil Aime's new documentary reveals the seven-year journey behind his Disney+ thriller WHO, premiering October 3 with unseen footage and family testimony.
Wil Aime has spent seven years teaching an audience to trust him before he ever asked them to buy a ticket. On October 3, that same audience gets to see what the trust cost him. A new documentary called L'Envers du Détail pulls back the curtain on the making of WHO, his psychological thriller that has already found a home on Disney+ in 75 territories, and this time the camera turns on the seven-year production itself, not the finished film.
Seven Years, One Answer
Wil Aime has never been a director who explains himself in real time. Across the years he spent building WHO, frame by frame and often without a studio's financial safety net, he kept the technical and financial struggles largely off camera, saving the story of the making for a much later date. That date is now.
"I have economized my appearances and explanations in recent years, firmly believing this documentary would one day emerge and inspire," Wil Aime said of the project, produced with Le Motif and Alex Haze from years of accumulated footage. The documentary's promotional line puts it more simply: watch this, and "you will understand everything."
"I absolutely do not want you to return anywhere except on the big screen or a streaming platform."

The Timeline of a Slow-Built Career
Seen end to end, the road from a first video to a documentary about the making of a feature film is less a straight line than a study in patience, the kind brands increasingly look for when they choose who to build long-term partnerships with.
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 2019 | Production begins on WHO, years before any public announcement |
| May to June 2026 | Theatrical rollout and Disney+ launch across 75 territories |
| September 24, 2026 | Documentary L'Envers du Détail announced, compiled by Le Motif and Alex Haze |
| October 3, 2026 | Documentary premieres, chronicling the full seven-year production |
What This Means for the Brands Around Him
For an agency built on long-term creator partnerships rather than one-off campaigns, Wil Aime's decision to document seven years instead of seven weeks is worth sitting with. It confirms something we have argued since his first leap from web creator to filmmaker: an audience built slowly, on trust rather than spectacle, becomes an asset that compounds. Brands chasing a quick spike from a single video are, by definition, missing that compounding.
It is a lesson that applies well beyond one filmmaker. Among Quebec's most closely watched content creators and the wider group of personalities shaping culture across the province, the ones building the most durable careers are rarely the loudest in the moment. They are the ones willing to let a story take seven years to tell properly, then trust an audience enough to show their work.
L'Envers du Détail premieres on Disney+ on October 3, 2026.
