The 10 true crime YouTubers and podcasts to watch this Halloween
1. Victoria Charlton
You cannot talk about true crime in Quebec without starting with her. Victoria Charlton launched her YouTube channel in 2018 and now has more than 730,000 subscribers. Disappearances, unsolved cases, mysteries and the paranormal: she tells every story with real research and a dark atmosphere that has become her signature.
Before YouTube, she earned a literary studies degree at Université Laval and a master's in Canadian studies, then taught French in Mexico, and it shows in her writing. She has published the Gardez l'œil ouvert series, Et tombent les têtes, La nuit de ta disparition and, in March 2026, Crimes sans frontières, co-written with French YouTuber McSkyz. On screen, she hosted Évaporés : Victoria Charlton enquête, a series produced with Urbania and Québecor Contenu about unsolved Quebec disappearances. And in September 2026, Crave announced her upcoming podcast, True crime avec Victoria Charlton.
2. Jemcee
Jemcee, whose real name is Jean-Michel Gagné, is from Jonquière. He has been posting on YouTube since 2016: vlogs first, then live streams on Twitch back when few Quebec creators were there. Since late 2025, he has reinvented himself with a documentary format, Jemcee sur Dailymotion… une histoire à la fois, dedicated to surprising and little-known Quebec stories.
On the crime side, he has covered the theft of nearly $19 million in maple syrup (more than 9,500 barrels), the Norbourg scandal, the story of the "Cocaine Babes" and a 15-year-old Quebec hacker who rattled Amazon. In the video above, he tells the story of the Quebecer behind $250 million in counterfeit US bills. This is less about murder and more about big heists and scams, told with a very Quebec point of view.
His path has not been without turbulence: in 2020, allegations of misconduct against him were made public and his agency suspended their collaboration. After a break, he returned to YouTube later that year, and his videos still draw a large audience and plenty of comments today.
3. Max Dionne
Max Dionne describes himself as a storyteller of strange stories, and that is exactly what he is. His channel tells stories inspired by the real, the strange and the unexplained: disappearances, poltergeists, UFOs, hauntings and cryptids. He also hosts a weekly podcast, Les histoires étranges de Max Dionne, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music.
His website features an interactive map of 90 cases, 42 of them in Quebec, plus a voicemail line where fans can leave their own testimonies. He also launched Anomalia Studio, a second channel with one darker story per episode, and a book is in the works. He is the obvious pick for a Halloween night that flirts with the paranormal.
4. Distorsion
Distorsion is the Montreal podcast of Émile Gauthier and Sébastien Lévesque, on the air since 2017. Their playground: strange stories from the digital age. True crime, fraud, cybercrime, catfishing, online mysteries, viral phenomena, conspiracies and creepypastas. Their common thread is the digital trail: profiles, messages, videos, location data and web archives used to rebuild what really happened.
The concept was even adapted into a documentary series that aired on the Témoin channel in 2019. On Apple Podcasts, the show holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating from more than 2,100 reviews in Canada. The video above, about John Titor, the self-proclaimed time traveler, dates back to their early days in 2017.
5. Côté Sombre
The idea behind Côté Sombre is simple and it works: Jennifer, a true crime enthusiast, tells a disturbing case, and Colin, her husband, reacts live while doing his best to keep up. The Irvine couple has released one episode a week since 2022, now past 195 episodes, with a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Apple Podcasts.
They have also taken the concept on stage, with live recordings at Foufounes Électriques in Montreal in February 2024 and September 2025. In the episode above, their guests are none other than Victoria Charlton, our number 1, and Stéphanie Vandelac.
6. Captives
Captives is probably the most recognized true crime podcast in Quebec. Created, produced and hosted by Annie Laurin and Michèle Ouellette, it revisits court cases that marked Quebec and disappearances that were never solved, with the goal of preserving their memory and giving victims a voice.
The numbers speak for themselves: more than 2.5 million downloads, the Outstanding Francophone Series award at the Canadian Podcast Awards in 2023, and the audience award at Festival Podcrime Montréal in 2024. The show is in its fifth season and even inspired a book, Captives : crimes réels et disparitions mystérieuses au Québec, published by Fides in 2023 with 13 untold stories. They also produced a special with the Pointe-à-Callière museum about body snatching in Victorian Montreal. Perfect Halloween material.
7. Un peu de crime dans ton café
Audrey and Catherine launched Un peu de crime dans ton café in 2020 with one promise: talk about crime in Quebec with humor and zero pretension. Murders, legal sagas and financial crimes, they have covered close to 150 episodes, from the Claude Robinson v. Cinar case to the murder of Guylaine Potvin, plus a series on the Dubois clan.
For their 100th episode, they welcomed Charles Beauchesne, from Les pires moments de l'histoire, to talk about La Corriveau, Quebec's most famous criminal legend. Hard to find a better Halloween episode.
8. Crime de bine
Hélène Thomson and Mélanie Bouchard have hosted Crime de bine since 2020. Their niche: Quebec and Canadian killers and cases, sometimes from close to home, told in a down-to-earth tone. A new episode drops every two weeks, and the show has more than 125 episodes, with a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Apple Podcasts.
Its success led to a book, Crime de bine : 12 cas de true crime 100 % québécois et canadiens, published by Éditions Saint-Jean in October 2025. Their latest episode, above, looks back at the 2018 disappearance of Ryan Shtuka in British Columbia.
9. Crimes&Cocktails
Crimes&Cocktails is a Quebec podcast hosted by Noémie and Jessica, two true crime fans. The concept: each one tells the other a case she has never heard of. And to help the dark stories go down, they share very "Instagrammable" cocktail recipes.
The tone is easygoing, but the content is serious: in the episode above, they tell Susan Kuhnhausen's story to talk about the warning signs of domestic violence. A good balance between chills and awareness.
10. Les K du Crime
Kathia and Kiki launched Les K du Crime in 2023 for fans of morbid topics, with one clear promise: no judgment here. Their podcast is meant to be the perfect listen while driving, cleaning or soaking in the bath, ideally with a glass of wine.
Over about thirty episodes, they have covered cases like the Ruppert family, Skylar Neese and the Amityville house. Their very first episode, above, is about the mysterious disappearance of Paulette Gebara Farah.
